Old meets New in a grand tour of Birmingham’s home-grown theatres

Birmingham Repertory Theatre and The Old Rep today announce an exciting collaboration that sees the two theatres join together to present the ultimate theatre tour, Rep to REP.

Celebrating these home-grown theatres, audiences have the chance to visit both venues in a rare opportunity to explore the unique shared history of these two iconic places.

Led by experienced guides, the tour will take you behind the scenes at both venues providing insight into the fascinating history of Birmingham Repertory Company over the last 105 years.

Birmingham Repertory Company was founded by local entrepreneur, Sir Barry Jackson in 1913 when he established the world's first purpose-built repertory theatre in Station Street.

Over the next century, the company would become synonymous with ground-breaking theatre, move to an innovative new home in Centenary Square, and collaborate with some of the finest acting and creative talent in the country.

Today, both theatres continue to play pivotal roles in the city's cultural excellence and civic heritage.

These grand tours will take place on Thursday 6 September and Saturday 8 September, as part of the Birmingham Civic Society's Centenary celebrations and during Birmingham Heritage Week. Starting at 10am, the tour will last approximately 3 hours (with a single break) and will involve lengthy periods of standing, walking and climbing a considerable number of stairs.

Tickets start at £15 and are available from both The Old Rep and Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
