On Saturday 15th February we held our first ever Youth Theatre showcase for our first term Junior and Senior students.
Going Dark! is a brand new piece, devised by our brand new Youth Theatre students, creatively directed by Clare Palethorpe and Emily Summers of Bostin’ Creative.
To celebrate our 107th Birthday, this performance included varied patchwork of theatrical, historical snapshots, which investigate and honour some of the creative moments our building (The Old Rep), and all who have known it, have shared. Over 100 years of history - there wasn’t time to cram it all in!
This project has been a theatre making learning curve for the members of the company, and in a very short space of rehearsal time the junior performers and senior ensemble have pulled it all together. In the name of Theatre, darling. Teamwork makes the dream work.
The Old Rep was a training ground for some of the greats including Sir Laurence Olivier, Derek Jacobi and Peggy Ashcroft - just to name a few. There is no doubt that the young performers passing through its doors on a weekly basis, both backstage, and in front of the bright lights, will continue its legacy and remember it fondly for generations to come.
Lights up onstage.
