Creative Apprenticeships

The Old Rep, in partnership with Birmingham Ormiston Academy, prides itself on providing quality training for the next generation of artists and arts workers. As part of this commitment to nurturing new talent, The Old Rep offers a programme of Apprenticeships together with Creative Alliance, a specialist provider of creative apprenticeships and opportunities.

Since 2014, The Old Rep has successfully trained 13 apprentices in Technical Theatre, Cultural Venues Operations and Marketing, with 7 of them having stayed on as full time or casual members of the team. Currently The Old Rep has apprentices in the Technical, Operations and Marketing departments.

"I have only been at The Old Rep for 4 months but I have learnt so much in such a short space of time. My apprenticeship has allowed me to work with all of The Old Rep team, as well as getting a lot of hands on experience. This has allowed me to develop and gain new skills, that are vital when working in such a busy environment. To top it off the team at The Old Rep are so friendly and welcoming which makes it easy for me to love my job."
Nareece Taff
Cultural Venue Operations Apprentice (2017-18)

“An apprenticeship at The Old Rep really allows you to get involved. Since I've been here I have been given the chance to design internal building signage, write and create mail outs, work on the box office and more. It’s a really hands on experience which has pushed me to try new things and to develop new skills. The Old Rep is full of history which is why it is such an interesting place to learn and work, it’s really cool to be a part of it.”
Amy Priest
Digital Marketing Apprentice (2017-18)

“I discovered a love for all things technical in my final year at University, and thought that my opportunity to explore that love was long gone when I graduated. When I applied for, and was accepted onto the Technical Theatre Apprenticeship I was over the moon! I get to work and be paid to do the thing that I love, AND I get a qualification at the end of this. It's amazing and I never want to leave!”
Lucy Harris
Technical Theatre Apprentice (2017-18)

“I began my Marketing Apprenticeship at The Old Rep in August 2015, I loved learning about the creative industry, co-ordinating and marketing shows and connecting with new audiences. I completed my apprenticeship in August 2016 and now I work at the theatre full time as a Marketing & Box Office Assistant. It is fantastic to work in such a historic venue with a great team. I have loved every second of it!”
