Ignition is a three year project (2015-2018) led by acclaimed physical theatre company Frantic Assembly. Funded by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Ignition is a national initiative developing new ways of increasing young men’s involvement in the arts, engaging creativity, developing physical theatre skills, raising aspirations and celebrating achievement.
The Old Rep is the Birmingham partner organisation, arranging Taster workshops and Trials, promoting the project and engaging local young men in the work.
Young men age 16-20 are invited to Taster workshops and Trials across the country during September and October to work with Frantic Assembly and get a taste for what the project will offer. From the Trials, a company of 12 young men are chosen to form the Ignition Company.
During October half term, the successful company are invited to London for a five day accredited intensive which culminates in a live performance.
All those who attend the Trials, whether selected for the final company or not, are eligible for the Back Up Programme. Provided in collaboration with the partner venue or organisation in each city, the Back Up Programme provides a year of mentoring, workshops, performances and offers.
