Theatre

Our theatre dates back to 1913 when it became the UK's first purpose-built repertory theatre, housing the first incarnation of Sir Barry Jackson's Birmingham Repertory Company.

Retaining many of the original features, the auditorium offers an elegant backdrop for any performance. The narrow auditorium and steeply raked seats provide excellent views throughout with no pillars or boxes to obscure your view.

Our orchestra pit seats up to 30 musicians and a number of music stands can be provided.

Capacity

The auditorium seats a maximum of 385 people, split over the stalls and balcony. The front row of the stalls includes 2 wheelchair spaces and there is step-free access via our Hinckley Street entrance.

Backstage Space

When hiring the theatre for a performance, you will have use of our 6 dressing rooms, the green room, kitchen, shower room and laundry room. For larger casts, the studios can be booked as additional dressing rooms. Unfortunately, due the age and layout of the building, our backstage areas are not wheelchair accessible.

Technical Support

Our experienced in-house technical team will available for the duration of your production and will be able to offer advice and support on the technical aspects of the performance.

Front of House Staff

For performances and other public events, we will provide Front of House and bar staff at no extra charge. Our Front of House team can sell your programmes and merchandise to your audiences (subject to commission) and will be on hand to ensure public safety.

Box Office

Your tickets will be sold through our online ticketing system and our dedicated Box Office team will provide weekly sales reports. We can provide an allocation of tickets to be sold via your organisation or we can look after all sales to take the hassle out of your event planning.

Marketing Support

As standard, your performance can be listed on our website and in our season brochure, your print will be displayed in the venue and support will be provided on social media. When you make a booking, our skilled marketing team will provide you with a menu of additional marketing services that can be delivered for a small charge.
