Peter Pan The Musical cast delights children at Ronald McDonald House

The cast of Peter Pan The Musical, appearing at The Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham this December, have brought a little bit of Christmas magic to families with a sick child in hospital.

On Tuesday 12th December, the performers ‘flew’ into Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, where they put on a spectacular, swashbuckling show for families staying at the House.

Peter Pan, Hook, Smee and the Darling children were among the characters who arrived with a sprinkling of fairy dust to put a smile on the faces of the parents and siblings of young patients being treated just across the road at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Ronald McDonald Birmingham House Manager Vishal Duggal said: “We were thrilled to welcome the stars of Peter Pan The Musical to the House and thank them for taking time out of their busy schedule to bring some much-needed joy to our families.

“Christmas can be a particularly difficult time when you have a seriously ill child in hospital. At the House, we try to bring a sense of normality and routine, by allowing families to enjoy the seasonal traditions they would be doing at home, whether that’s decorating the tree, cooking a turkey roast, or watching a festive family show. It’s so important they’re still able to make memories, even when they’re going through such difficult times.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK is an independent Charity, which operates 14 Houses across England, Wales, and Scotland, providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation and support for families with a sick child in hospital. The Houses keep families together, close to their children on the ward. They provide a place to sleep, cook and retain some sense of normal life; a lifeline for families at a very stressful time, especially when they are far from home. A Ronald McDonald House saves each family an average of £1,240 in out-of-pocket accommodation expenses.

Peter Pan The Musical is running at Birmingham’s The Old Rep Theatre until Sunday 31st December. It marks the eighth Christmas production that The Old Rep has produced alongside the BOA Group. This family favourite musical adventure follows the Darling children, Wendy, John, and little Michael as they embark on a voyage to Neverland with Peter Pan. Here they encounter a host of surprises from fantastical fairies and carnivorous crocodile to pack the pugnacious pirates led by the infamous Captain Hook himself!

Emma Ferguson, Marketing & Sales Officer at The Old Rep Theatre said “Coming to the Ronald McDonald House Birmingham has been a real highlight for us. It is a privilege to be able to bring the fun of the show to families who are not able to get out to the theatre this Christmas. We’re delighted to have chosen Ronald McDonald House Charities UK as our charity partner for the show this year and look forward to doing a bucket collection after some of our performances for the charity. The work they do to keep families close is invaluable, and we’re proud to get behind their vital cause.”

The Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is one of the Charity’s largest purpose-built accommodation facilities. As well as providing 65 ensuite bedrooms, the Birmingham House offers families the opportunity to cook and eat together and to share their experiences. The House also has a communal lounge, kitchen and play area for families visiting the hospital for the day.
